Campaign News and Updates:

  • Ships worldwide sound the alarm tomorrow
An unprecedented coalition that brings together everyone in the vast world shipping industry – from trade unions to ship owners and religious organisations – will tomorrow lobby the US and other governments to treat the world’s 1.25 million seafarers as partners in terrorism prevention, not potential criminals. Around the world ships’ sirens/whistles will sound at 12:00 to raise the alarm that innocent seafarers are being effectively detained on board ships by post 9/11 security measures that actually undermine the new security role given to them by recent UN legislation. On the same day, World Maritime Day, 30 September, delegations will engage with US Embassies and Consulates worldwide and related events will be held as part of a global effort to redress these injustices. more >>
