Uganda
The Uganda Railway Workers' Union has this morning organised a gathering at Tororo, east of Kampala.  Approximately 200 workers and union supporters attended the event which discussed safety issues, in particular HIV/AIDS.  The event was followed by a lunch reception.  The union has used the ITF campaign material and displayed the campaign poster at several railway stations. (Telephone report by Geraldine Nakaweesi, Agnes Kunihira and Samuel Wuma)

Norway
Norsk Lokomotivmannsforbund had around 60 activists delivering leaflets targeting passengers at a particular rail and bus operator based mainly in the south eastern area of the country around Stavanger. Transport workers in this company have been experiencing increased violence especially late at night. The union has been involved in talks with the government and has managed to procure a new law which should come into effect in the next few months. It will give better protection to the workers concerned. (Telephone report by Øystein Aslaksen)

Switzerland
SEV Schweizerischer Eisenbahn- und Verkehrspersonal-Verband issued a press release to raise awareness of the campaign and took part in the action day by handing out leaflets at Bern, Zurich and other stations. (Telephone report by Barbara Spalinger)

Great Britain
ASLEF has distributed 10,000 leaflets to passengers nationwide to raise awareness of Network Rail's cuts in maintenance and renewals and the effect on rail safety.  This morning during rush hour union activists distributed leaflets at Euston, Kings Cross, St. Pancras, Fenchurch and Liverpool Street stations in London as well as other locations around the country including Doncaster, Leeds, Chester, Liverpool, Manchester, Birmingham and Glasgow. Further leafleting is planned at London Bridge, Waterloo and Victoria stations in London during the evening rush hour. Public reaction to the activity was good. The union had used social networking site Facebook to advertise its event.  Leaflets were also sent to the union's local branches for distribution on trains. (Telephone report by Simon Weller)
