Page context: ITF North European week of action
Running from the 4th to the 8th of June 2007, the ITF’s North European week of action brings together personnel from the ITF and volunteers from seafarers’ and dockworkers’ trade unions in a five day operation to check and, where necessary, act to achieve decent conditions onboard ships. It is taking place in Belgium, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Ireland, Latvia, Lithuania, The Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Russia, Sweden, the UK, and Norway.
As part of the week teams will be inspecting ships in order to see at first hand the conditions onboard. They will expect to find many vessels where decent conditions prevail and workers are well treated. However, on any vessels where they discover abuses occurring they will aim to assist any crew members who are experiencing difficulties, recover owed wages where appropriate, and put vessels under ITF agreements that protect vulnerable workers.
