Due to the Hindu festival next week, the ITF-affiliated NETWON organised a taxi rally in Kathmandu in the morning of 6 October 2005.  500 vehicles and union members participated.  "The rally was fantastic" says Ajay Rai, President of NETWON.

Top leadership from the national labour centre was also present.  The unionists distributed leaflets to public, police and journalists calling for the restoration of democracy in Nepal "because without democracy we can't organise the workers and nobody will tell them about their rights".  The union will further organise a variety of actions in the districts nationwide on 8 October.  Last week, Mac Urata, ITF Inland Transport Section Secretary, visited Kathmandu to finalise the union programme.
