Argentina 
The maritime union, Centro de Capitanes de Ultramar y Oficiales de la Marina Mercante began their activities on the 6th January with a seminar and  workshop on women transport workers rights  Attendees included union  members, members of other unions and the media.

Algeria
On March 8th the Syndicat National d’Entreprise SNTF/UGTA will be organising a lunch for women workers and briefing on rights of women to decent work followed by a debate.  They have also arranged to distribute the campaign materials to workers and passengers.

Australia 
The Maritime Union of Australia, MUA plans to involve all members in local activities and to increase attendance at official march in Sydney city. The MUA Women’s Conference coincides with the campaign day and so the opportunity will arise to meet before hand and after the march to discuss local issues.

Barbados
The Barbados Worker’s Union have carried out a survey on violence against women in various workplaces. The survey results will be debated in a symposium that they have organised on the 8 March. A government minister will attend the symposium as a speaker. A resolution from the symposium will be drafted, calling for immediate action.

Benin
The Syndicat National des Travailleurs de la Météorologie et d'Aviation Civile  will be organising a march followed by a meeting, this will focus especially on the trafficking of women.

Cambodia 
A meeting will be held by the Trades Unions of Sihanouk Ville Port, to improve links between women members, raise awareness and emphasise the importance of raising issues that affect women and reporting them.

Ethiopia 
The Transport & Communications Workers' Trade Unions Industrial Federation have organised a training session and social dialogue on gender issue. The union’s activities are aimed at promoting decent life women and to stop sexual harassment in the transport industry.

France
To mark the day, the CFDT produced a poster with a statement on the need for the fight for equality to be part of a more general fight for fair treatment and the need to make public policies more operational, to encourage the development and use of new negotiating tools.  See below.

Great Britain
The T&G section of Unite, will be distributing campaign materials.

Guyana
The Guyana Labour Union have organised a Symposium on increasing women’s leadership and secure women’s rights in the trade union movement.

India
The Paradip Port Worker's Union will be using their conference hall to conduct a workshop.  They will also be organising a procession.

The National Union of Seamen of India have organised a number of activities to increase awareness of women’s rights and to campaign against their exploitation.  These include a rally, a seminar and a field trip visiting homes for destitute women.

A number of activities have been arranged by the All India Railwaymen’s Federation, to mark the occasion, these include a range of meetings and seminars held in various cities across India to address women’s issues.

In particular the city of Alipurduar Junction saw a procession of women on motorcycles leading a march which ended with a seminar. The meeting in Bongaigaon centered on the role of women in the family and in society, the meeting which saw in excess of 350 participants expressed their dissatisfaction with society’s estimation of women and called for rights and freedom for women.

The Transport & Dock Workers’ Union (T&DWU)/HMS in association with Mumbai Port Trust’s(MbPT) Women’s Wing celebrated International Women’s Day by holding a conference, the meeting was very well attended and included guest speakers from the Government to medical experts. The meeting discussed a wide range of issues such as the role of women in society to female infanticide. There was also a play staged by women workers. The port authority congratulated the trade union in it’s support of women’s issues and announced their plans to finance a gender program for the coming year.

Ivory Coast
The ITF Women’s Coordinating Committee – Ivory Coast have organised a large demonstration for women workers from all transport sectors, with the aiming of attracting women into the union movement.

Ivory Coast, Burkina Faso, Niger, Senegal, and Togo
On 7-8 March 2008 the Women’s Committee of ITF Francophone West African affiliates celebrated International Women’s day in Abidjan (Côte d’Ivoire).  A two-day seminar was organised starting on 7 March, on the ‘Rights for Women, rights for all’ slogan. The event highlighted the issues relating to women’s rights in the work place,   active participation of women in unions and their decision making bodies, plight of women working in the informal sector.  A particular emphasis was placed on encouraging women’s participation in trade unions.   This was a major event in the region which involved the participation of 11 transport unions from five West African Countries as follows:- Burkina Faso, Ivory Coast, Niger, Senegal and Togo.  The media were invited to this event, a first of its kind.  The decision to hold the International Women’s Day in 2009 event in Guinea Conakry was made by participants.

Jordan
The General Trade Union of Workers in Air Transport and Tourism will distribute brochures and leaflets about women in the union.  The Women’s Committee have also arranged a seminar to highlight the importance of women’s participation to strengthen trade unions.

Kenya
The Dockworkers' Union have noted that  a unprecedented increase in the number of violations against women in the recent climate that has followed the elections.  The union is addressing the problem faced by women by holding workshops which includes role play; there will also be counselling for affected women. 

The Kenya Railway and Allied Workers Union have organised a march aimed at sensitising women on the need to go for union elective posts. The march which will begin at the work place and will then go past the union offices and on to a stadium.

Latvia
The Latvian Seafarers Union of Merchant Fleet are organising their Women’s Conference on the 7th March 2008.   Emphasis is to be placed on defending the rights and interests of women members working in merchant shipping and strengthening union membership.

Lebanon
The Lebanese Cabin Crew Union will be running an article about the 8th March in their union publication.

Malaysia
In order to unionise more women workers and to increase the participation of women workers, the Transport Workers Union Malaysia has organised many activities. These include a gathering on Women's Day, an expedition to North Port Company and a women’s workshop.

Mauritius
The Government Servants' Association are to hold a workshop aimed at all women workers, both union members and non members.

The Transport Corporation Employees' Union of Mauritius will be organising events with the aim of increasing awareness on how to stop the spread of HIV/Aids.

Mongolia
The Mongolian Transport, Communication and Petroleum Workers Union have resolved to emphasise women petroleum workers conditions a priority on their negotiation agenda.

Nepal
The Nepal Transport Labour Association organised a march in Kathmandu to commemorate the event.

Nigeria
The Air Transport Services Senior Staff Association (ATSSSAN) will be distributing campaign materials to mark the event.

A workshop and a seminar has been organised by the Nigeria Merchant Navy Officers' and Water Transport Senior Staff Association.

Pakistan
The Pakistan Transport Workers Federation aims to organise more women units all over the country. The union will organise a women’s rally to be held on the 8th March and a seminar on gender equality.

All Pakistan Civil Transport Workers' Union have organised a meeting and workshop to increase awareness on health and education.

South Africa
SATAWU are organising a number of gender forum meetings across provinces to increase awareness of women’s rights.

Spain
During 2008, the UGT will continue building on activities developed in 2007. These activities include trade union education about legislation approved in 2007, on equality between women and men. This education is geared towards ensuring gender input in collective bargaining. UGT events programme stretch from the 3rd to the 9th of March, these include commemorative rallies to be held in various Spanish cities, and union awards on 8th March prize.

Tunisia
The National Federation of Tunisian Railways organised a discussion panel on the 6th March under the theme of ‘Rights for Women, Mean Rights for All’. Discussions centered on the impact of globalisation on women’s workers.

Thailand
ITF affiliates in Thailand marked International Women’s Day, by taking part in a wider national demonstration. The picket started at 09.00 am. in front of the UN building in Bangkok, followed by the submission of a equality and labour rights charter to the Labour Ministry. The charter demanded the government to promote the participation of women at all levels especially at decision making level in the Labour Ministry; issue and enforce the strict provisions with heavy punishment on sexual harassment against women and children; support and promote the establishment of workplace child care centers in industrial Communities; ratify the ILO Convention No. 87, 98 to guarantee basic workers rights to uphold the new state constitution dated 2007, relating to civil servants rights to organise and revoke the State Enterprise Act and stop and revoke all privatization plans.

Zambia
In order to highlight the importance of IWD, the Railway Workers' Union of Zambia will be talking to women to raise awareness on the benefits gained for women.The Workers' Union of Tazara has organised a march to start from the town centre and then onto the workplace.  This will then be followed by a rally where there will be speakers both from management and government officials to mark the occasion. Papua New Guinea
The Papua New Guinea Maritime Workers Industrial Union will be holding a forum on the 8th March.

Philippines
PANTALAN have organised a number of activities to increase public awareness of women’s rights.  The activities include a public forum, radio and television campaign. The union will also be participating in a government program of gender advocates of women in government service.

Uganda
The Amalgamated Transport & General Workers Union of Uganda have organised a march at Kololo Airstrip, the main venue for the 8th March National activities. A meeting will follow to discuss the role of women in transforming societies to achieve political, economical and social development.
