
Maersk to focus on workers’ safety and a green profile
Global Safety Day and CO2 reductions set to create a more ethical profile for Maersk

In 2007 for the first time AP Moller-Maersk publicly presented a set of corporate business principles, including guidelines for environmental behaviour and employee rights.The company is now taking new steps to focus on safety and the environment.
More than 50 APM Terminals introduced a Global Safety Day on October 24, 2007, whose purpose was to get everyone to discuss safety issues.
Kim Fejfer, CEO of APM Terminals, explained: “Container Terminals are dangerous places to work and it is in everyone’s interest to ensure we have safe working environments. At APM Terminals we have a zero tolerance towards accidents and we believe all accidents can and should be avoided. Safety is a joint effort and is an important part of how we work together at APM Terminals and with our business partners.”
30 minute work stoppage
APM terminals stopped operations at every terminal for 30 minutes on Global Safety Day to mark its focus on the issue. “We have always focused on safety and continuous improvement and we need to continue with new initiatives, ways and means to reach zero,” said Henrik Kristensen, Director of Health, Safety, Security and Environment.
Carbon check Maersk also announced more focus on a green profile in. In future the company will offer a new service that should reduce customer emission of CO2 in their supply chains. AP Moller-Maersk has named the new service offer ‘The SupplyChain CarbonCheck’. “With this new service offer, Maersk Logistics can identify and implement solutions to reduce the emission of CO2 in our customer supply chain,” said Erling J. Nielsen, who is globally responsible for Supply Chain Development with Maersk Logistics.
