Planned Action Day activities
Information on planned activities by unions for the ITF/UNI Action Day on Integrators on 9 November 2006.
Ver.di is planning a nationwide programme of activities on the Action Day for workers in the four integrator companies (UPS, DHL, FedEx and TNT) in Germany. These activities include workshop meetings, submission of objectives and demands to management, press conferences and leafleting.
The GMB in Great Britain is planning to undertake a nationwide Health & Safety audit of every DHL workplace in order to find the ten most identifiable hazards. Local union stewards will present a letter to local managers to explain why the union is carrying out the audit as part of the global Action Day. Health & Safety meetings will also be held with members at each workplace on the Action Day.

The Australian Services Union will organise activities throughout the country on 9 November. In Queensland, there will be a BBQ lunch and meeting of union members at TNT to discuss all current issues. In New South Wales, morning tea will be organised for workers at the TNT head office followed by a BBQ lunch and union meeting. In Victoria, BBQ lunches and awareness activities will be held at TNT and TOLL.

The Transport Workers' Union of Australia is planning various nationwide activities for the Action Day on 9 November, which coincides with the introduction of the Independent Contractors Bill. Yard meetings are planned at workplaces, in particular at TNT, as well as the display of campaign posters, press conferences on the right to organise and petitions calling on companies to take action to resolve problems. Union members have been speaking to their Members of Parliament to discuss the proposed new legislation.
The DHL Worldwide Express Pvt. Ltd. Employees' Union in India has already displayed the campaign poster in workplaces in Chennai. On 9 November, the union plans to organise meetings and demonstrations at DHL workplaces.
As part of a long-term campaign to organise drivers and sort personnel at FedEx Ground and Home Delivery, the International Brotherhood of Teamsters Parcel and Small Package Division will mobilise 110 local unions to distribute ITF and union materials at more than 200 FedEx Ground facilities during the week of 6 November. The union is currently organising activities to educate drivers of their rights as employees and rights under US transportation laws and materials distributed during the week will carry the message "Don't Risk an Accident: Report Hours of Service Violations".

Teamsters Canada will be using the Action Day to inform members about the ITF and the union's role in the wider global trade union movement, as well as to build awareness of participating in global action in order to assist the union's activities to organise the unorganised locally. The campaign poster will be displayed at Local offices and on Teamsters bulletin boards at workplaces. On 9 November, the union will meet with Members of Parliament to discuss the Action Day and to highlight the challenges workers face worldwide in trying to organise workers.

The objectives of the Communication and Transport Workers' Union of Zanzibar in Tanzania on the Action Day are to organise and recruit new members and to raise awareness on trade union issues and HIV/AIDS at workplaces. The union will target unorganised workers at several companies and organisations including the Tanzania Civil Aviation Authority, the Tanzania Post Corporation and private/charter flight companies. On 9 November, the union will hold an awareness meeting at Zanzibar International Airport.
