Australia
The Australian Services Union launched a web-based campaign on 27 March, which included a union Rail and Public Transport Charter and Action Plan for 2006. The union called on Australian Governments - Federal and State - to adopt a comprehensive approach to safety and plans to run the campaign for 12 months. The union hopes that its members as well as members of other unions, workplace groups, members of Government and Parliament, individual corporations, social movements and NGOs will sign the charter. (Email report by Greg McLean)

Macedonia
The Association of Independent Trade Unions of Personnel in Traffic in Macedonia participated in the Action Day for the first time. The union distributed leaflets at main stations in the country including in the capital Skopje and other stations on Corridors 8 and 10. A union delegation also met with the Deputy Minister of Transport to protest against the lay off of five of its union leaders due to union activities. A press conference was also organised by the union. (Phone report by Goran Veskov)
