Argentina
The civil aviation union Asociación Argentina de Aeronavegantes will raise awareness that joining a union is the most important tool in the fight for equal access to rights and that this is strengthened with the active participation of all involved.
Australia
Members of the Australian Rail, Tram & Bus Industry Union will join a march organised by the union to mark the day.
Bulgaria
The Federation of Transport Trade Unions in Bulgaria (FTTUB) held a meeting attended by 20 women activists, representing workers in urban transport, air traffic control and transport construction, as well as those at Sofia Airport.. The meeting addressed methods to recruit women to trade unions, encouraging training on policies on gender equality and combating discrimination. There was broad support to continue to implement the agreement between the metropolitan municipality and the FTTUB to combat violence against women in the workplace.
Canada
The National Automobile, Aerospace Transportation and General Workers' Union will be working with their local women's committee to communicate the benefits of union membership to women in the transport sector.
Congo DR
The Centrale des Travailleurs du Transport et Communication will be lobbying the government for decent work and equal opportunities. The union will hold training seminars to raise awareness to increase women’s participation in the union.
France
The Fédération Générale des Transports et de l'Equipement – CFDT produced posters and postcards, that were distributed at Paris’s train stations by activists dressed in pink t-shirts.
India
The All India Railwaymen's Federation are encouraging union activities at a local level. The activities to raise awareness of women’s rights include workshops, drama competitions, education programmes and rallies.
The National Union of Seamen of India have organised a rally and seminar on the 8th March. The union will also be distributing posters and leaflets.
The Southern Railway Mazdoor Union (SRMU) women’s committee organised several initiatives to celebrate the 2011 International Women’s Day. Around 700 women employees from various sectors of the railway industry participated. A special edition of the magazine “Mazdoor Murasu – Magalir Special” was produced. The SRMU president used the occasion to call for flexible working conditions for women. The ITF campaign materials were greatly appreciated.
Western Railway Mazdoor Sangh celebrated the 2011 International Women’s Day throughout their six divisions by organising different cultural programmes.

Indonesia
The seafarers’ union Kesatuan Pelaut Indonesia and the Norwegian Seafarers’ Union celebrated the 2011 International Women’s Day by organising a training workshop themed ‘Equal access to education, training, science and technology: Pathway to decent work for women’. This covered two important areas: women’s reproductive health and women’s nutrition.
Jordan
The General Trade Union of Workers in Air Transport and Tourism will work with the General Federation of Jordanian Trade Unions, who are holding a conference. The union will hold a workshop about women’s role socially, the workplace and in society. The union will also distribute campaign materials.
Kenya
Members of the Dockworkers' Union of Kenya marched across Mombasa Island singing songs in praise of women, then converged on the historical Makadara grounds where speeches were delivered.
Guest of honour was Evelyn Mwamure, a manager at Kenya Ports Authority. There were speeches from women who had undergone rehabilitation for drug use and a play showing gender discrimination and the importance of joining a union.
Macedonia
The Trade Union of Transport and Communications established a women's section to promote gender equality in their country’s transport sector. A president and vice-president were appointed to head the section.
Nepal
The Independent Transport Workers’ Association of Nepal, together with other organisations, celebrated the 101st International Working Women’s Day with the slogan “work-life balance” by organising rallies throughout the country. Altogether more than 500 women transport workers participated in programmes. To mark the occasion, a request was handed to the Nepalese minister for labour and transport to help secure jobs for women workers in the transport industry.
Philippines
To mark the 2011 International Women’s Day, the Associated Labour Unions and Philippine Seafarers’ Union (ALU/PSU) joined several women's groups and advocates in a demonstration calling for the enactment of the Reproductive Health Bill into national law. The ALU/PSU women’s committee led an activity to exemplify “respect for the integrity of the earth and to make it integral in our call for decent work, decent life”.
