It is with great sadness that we announce the death of our friend and comrade, Charles Narelli who passed away in Marseilles this week from cancer at the age of 76.

Charles was a member of the French union CGT, an affiliate of the ITF and ETF. He was also former General Secretary of the Merchant Navy Officers’ Federation UGICT CGT. Charles worked tirelessly and enthusiastically to protect the rights of seafarers and will be greatly missed by the many trade unionists with whom he came into contact.

ITF general secretary David Cockroft said: “Charles was a tough fighter on behalf of French seafarers. He was quite determined to bring his federation and others in the CGT into the ITF family as he could see clearly the vital role of international solidarity for his members. He will be sadly missed.”

The ITF family would like to express its sympathy for Charles’ wife and the children and grandchildren he leaves behind.
